The Filter option allows the Scheduler to display only specific\nactivities based on the Filter criteria. There are a vast amount of options\nthat go beyond the scope of this article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, in this article, we will explore a not-well known or understood feature I&#8217;ll describe as \u201cMulti-Leveling\u201d. In other words, you can implement the multi-level filter technique that allows for multiple filter criteria to be combined into a single Filter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the sample Project shown below, \u201cThyme Street Bridge\nConstruction\u201d consists of the construction 3 Piers comprised of Piles, Footers,\nColumns and Caps. The Project is planned with 3 crews: a) a Pile Driving Crew;\nB) a Footer Construction Crew; and C) a Carpenter Crew responsible for building\nthe Columns and Caps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this scenario, a reasonable CPM model for this Project would appear as shown below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.foxquestsystems.net\/foxblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Sample-Project-All-Activities.jpg?resize=840%2C252&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1675\" width=\"840\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.foxquestsystems.net\/foxblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Sample-Project-All-Activities.jpg?resize=1024%2C307&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.foxquestsystems.net\/foxblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Sample-Project-All-Activities.jpg?resize=300%2C90&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.foxquestsystems.net\/foxblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Sample-Project-All-Activities.jpg?resize=768%2C230&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.foxquestsystems.net\/foxblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Sample-Project-All-Activities.jpg?w=1174&amp;ssl=1 1174w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now suppose we need to display\n(or Filter) only the Cap construction for Piers 1 and Piers 3. Since the sample\nset above is small, there are multiple options to accomplish this. However, for\nthe purposes of illustration, the most common solution would be to create 2\nFilters. One filter to select only the Cap Construction, then another to select\nPiers 1 and Piers 2. Once the 2 independent Filters are defined, the option to\n\u201cShow activities that match\u201d is set to \u201cAll selected filters\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The common solution approach\nconsists of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Create a Filter to Select only Cap Construction as shown below:<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image following)\u201d option to select only activities containing the word \u201cCap\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Create a Filter to Select Pier 1 or Pier 3 Construction as shown following)\u201d option to select only activities containing the word \u201cPier 1\u201d or \u201cPier 3\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Under the \u201cShow activities that match\u201d text, select the \u201cAll selected filters\u201d option, then select both Filters created above as shown below:<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large Filtering, a better and more efficient solution can be constructed by combining both Filters into one Filter Criteria as shown below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Create the first Filter criteria exactly as in Step 1 above as shown below:<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.foxquestsystems.net\/foxblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Filter-3-Step-1-Cap-Construction.jpg?resize=622%2C368&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1672\" <ul><li>Add a third line using the \u201c(Any of the following)\u201d option similar to Step 2 above.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Add a fourth line, then enter the criteria \u201cWhere Activity Name contains Pier 1\u201d. Make sure that Line 3 as shown below contains the \u201c-\u201c symbol on the left indicating a <strong>second level<\/strong> is defined for the filter criteria. If the \u201c-\u201c symbol is not shown, then click on the \u201cShift Right\u201d arrow to create the second level. If necessary, additional levels can be added for more complicated Filters.
